VRE FRESH WATER

The Freshwater VRE addresses rivers, lakes, wetlands, and other aquatic systems. Given the sensitivity of freshwater biodiversity and its role as an early indicator of ecological change, this VRE includes:

• Water quality and species richness indicators

• Impact assessment of land use and pollution on freshwater bodies

• Modelling of hydrological and ecological dynamics

• Data harmonisation across temporal and spatial scales

It contributes directly to the Water Framework Directive and other EU policies aimed at protecting freshwater ecosystems.
