๐น About BMD SAP
The BMD Single Access Point (SAP) is the central digital platform of the Biodiversity Meets Data (BMD) project. It offers a unified entry point for accessing tools, workflows, and data related to high-throughput biodiversity monitoring, FAIR data publication, advanced analytical environments, and geospatial visualisation.
Designed with and for end-users such as scientists, site managers, policymakers, and restoration planners, the SAP enables evidence-based decision-making across marine, terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems. It integrates cutting-edge monitoring technologies with data harmonisation and modelling tools, helping to support the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030 and the Nature Restoration Law.
๐น Who We Are
We are a multidisciplinary team of researchers, developers, and biodiversity experts working under the BMD project consortium, which brings together leading institutions across Europe. Our expertise spans ecology, environmental monitoring, remote sensing, data science, artificial intelligence, and policy development.
Together, we aim to bridge the gap between complex biodiversity data and practical conservation needs by building a robust, user-friendly, and FAIR-compliant digital infrastructure.
๐น The BMD Project
Biodiversity Meets Data (BMD) is a Horizon Europe-funded project that aims to build a cross-cutting platform for biodiversity monitoring, data standardisation, and ecosystem modelling. The project focuses on:
-
Developing and validating high-throughput biodiversity monitoring tools (eDNA, camera traps, acoustic devices)
-
Mobilising and FAIR-ifying baseline and historical biodiversity data
-
Enabling Virtual Research Environments (VREs) for scenario analysis and restoration planning
-
Supporting the design, expansion, and management of protected areas across Europe
The project aligns with the EUโs Green Deal and contributes directly to the implementation of the Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 and the Nature Restoration Law.
